...in the racing world.

This is the absolute dumbest thing that could possibly be done. It is so utterly ridiculous that I just cant believe they would do it and still consider to to be a legit championship.

    What a crock of shit.

One step closer to professional wrestling, I suppose.

Tell me about it...Nascar is selling out bad...they need new management...I mean, c'mon!...the Nextel Cup!...you gotta be kidding me!...It's Winston Cup...always has been...and always should be...Nascar respect = -5...and they were at 8...in this case...3 ain't the magic number...BOO!... Nascar's ratings were booming and they were the biggest growing sport...(hell just check out all the Dale Jr. fans at any race, it's absurd! new fans galore!) why change?...

It's fucking stupid...screw hard work, and being careful week in and week out...getting good finishes...and staying in the top ten...it won't give you shit except for a 10 point lead with 10 races left...it basically nullifies the entire first part of the season!...since when did consistancy become so bad?...I admire that...fucking sell outs...*spits*...

    It really is absurd.

I'm not really sure why they are changing anything. Like you say, the popularity is off the charts. They just got a new TV deal a year or two ago worth a zillion dollars and the attendance numbers at the races rival population numbers of a good sized entire city.

Jeff Gordon has hosted Saturday Night Live for Christs sake!

Under the new system a team could work their asses off to build up a huge points lead and then DNF one of the final ten races and lose the championship.

No Joke, staying consistent over a whole season would seem to be a lot harder than winning a few races and placing farther down the rest of the time.
Like you said TG, now all the work you do in the beginning of the season is for nothing. I mean, all you have to do is be good enough to be in the top ten. Why should you go all out if it is going to do you no good? Weren't they making enough $$ already???

yanno, i have such a good argument against this system but no good way to put it into words that would make sense to anyone else.

ill just put it like this, when the BEST racers are competing ALL against EACH OTHER week in and week out then it's ridiculous to implement a "playoff" system for the last ten races.

you state that you will attend no matter what because you like the racing, eh?

    ok well consider this.

Let's take Tony Stewart as an example. We'll say there are 12 races to go and Tony is leading the points chase by 200 points. He KNOWS that all he has to do is finish the next two races and he'll still be on top when the points are adjusted. What motivation is he going to have to drive extra hard when he knows his points are going to be readjusted anyways?

One of the big things for drivers is to make it into the Top Ten at the seasons end so that they can go to the banquet in NYC. You think that the guy in 11th is going to race extra hard at the last 10 races knowing he cant crack the top 10 no matter what he finishes?

In my opinion, it will affect the racing.

For me, it doesnt matter since I believe I only watched the end of the Daytona 500 last year...but still, if I were a bigger nascar fan like i was in the mid to late 90's then it would piss me off a lot more.

Thank god the AMA never pulls any bonehead moves like that in supercross like deducting points for aggressive riding!

    Oh wait...

    Fuck the AMA too!
